Lightweight interior design features can be constructed to a clients requirements.

These can range from simple architrave profiles, columns or arches to elaborately carved wall features.

Timber elements can also be carved to create freeform curves as shown on the front face of this island bench to frame a corrigated iron kick panel.

Polystyrene provides an excellent base for producing large and complex fibreglass moulds.

The client brief was for a set of Roman Arches for a Trade Display.

The keystone was to feature a Crest.

The arches had to be easily transportable and simple to setup and disassemble and finished in a sandstone like texture.

In this instance Industrial Carving Services were commisioned to produced concept and detail drawings designed to fit within the confines of the display booth while maximising the available floor space.

Physical Models from Electronic 3D Model

A 3D electronic model can easily be converted into a physical model
This dragons head was a free model found on the internet at www.turbosquid.com Various 3D model file formats can be used: iges, stl, obj, 3ds etc.	The model is divided into its separate components in preparation for creating tool paths.
The components were then used to create machine tool cutter paths for the 3 Axis CNC Router. The size of the finished object and the level of detail required will determine the final cost. A high level of detail will require a fine cutting tool and therefore more machining time. A large tool with a coarse cut can very quickly produce an object which is scaled in proportion and can provide an excellent starting point for sculpting by hand or further enhanced by your own imagination.
The components, cut from medium density expanded polystyrene foam, are trimmed and additional fine detail can be added by hand.
The components are assembled together and finished to the clients requirements. This model measured approximately 600mm x 600mm x 600mm. Industrial Carving Services can provide the model as a finished object or as a set of components for you to add your own touches.

	Small models can be enlarged to whatever size is required. We can start with a clay marquette, an existing toy or even a 3D computer model. This toy monster is 150mm tall.
	The Marquette is first scanned using a 3D laser scanner to produce an electronic 3 dimensional model.
	The electronic model produced by the scanner can then be manipulated to enlarge it by a scale factor or to fit within a given envelope. In this instance we scaled it by a factor of 4 and increased the height to 600mm. Tool paths are created for each piece and machined from medium density EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) Foam blocks.
	Depending on the final size required the electronic model can be divided into smaller sections to suit the carving machine.
	Once machined the completed model is assemlbled, final touches are applied by hand and the foam is then ready to receive an external coating. Various external coatings can be applied depending on the final application. eg. Is it to be used inside or exposed to the elements? Will it be exposed to impacts? What surface finish and texture is required? What level of surface detail is required?
